Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson is the daughter of British lawyers Jacqueline Luesby (born in Paris) as well as Chris Watson (born in Paris). They relocated to Oxfordshire in the year she turned five where she attended at the Dragon School. Emma was just six when she made the decision to pursue a career as an actress. She studied for a number of years at Stagecoach Theatre Arts, a part time theatre school in Oxford in which she learned acting as well as singing. As early as age ten, she took part and performed the main role in numerous Stagecoach School plays and productions. In 1999 casting began for Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001) the movie adaptation of British author J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Emma was discovered by agent through the recommendation of her Oxford teacher. David Heyman, the producer of Harry Potter Harry Potter's Sorcerer's Stone and Ron Weasley told Emma after 8 auditions, that she had been chosen for these roles. Emma was chosen to play alongside Daniel Radcliffe Rupert Grint and Rupert Grint. Emma's screen debut took place with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone's debut in 2001. It was the highest-grossing film of 2001, the film set records in its first day revenue as well as the opening weekend's earnings. The film was praised by critics and the performances of the three leading actors of the young generation. The Daily Telegraph, an important British newspaper, called Emma's performance "amazing". Later Emma was shortlisted for five awards for her role in the film winning her the Young Artist Award for Leading Young Actress in the feature Film.
